A collection of the elements that make cities really amazing places. From the way the city is physically built, to the way we decorate it, activate it, and move through it. It all comes together to create beautifully chaotic, experimental, and vibrant urban spaces we love to call home.
This book is designed as a thought companion, a little provocateur asking us if there isn’t a way we can imagine a more dynamic, vibrant, and fun city. By no means an academic project, it’s more like a catalogue of design elements that can be investigated and built in your city. Some ideas you might love, some you might question, some might be down right bad — it’s all part of exploring the possibilities of what’s next.
This 440-page book is divided into 18 themes that, as its name suggests, looks at 176 ideas. It has place for you to jot down your own notes, fill out your own ratings for the ideas, and even contribute your own Great Cities Ideas to the back of the book. Like I said, it’s meant to help us think a bit more imaginatively, not just read a dry book about what other cities are doing.
